Cultural Perspectives

Every year, the Department of Education offers a Maymester course called Cultural Perspectives in Education (ED3332). The students who enroll in this course will take a two-three week trip into a culturally diverse environment, supervised by two university professors. Significant time is spent in school settings. Journal writing, readings, and reports will be assigned before and during the trip. For the last several years, the students worked at Rockyford School, located on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Dr. Keith Nikolaus & Dr. Junior High are shown on the left with the eleven students who enrolled in this Maymester '09 course. Shot from the top of Harney Peak, the rear of Mr. Rushmore can be seen in the background.

In the image below, those students are pictured again: (left to right standing) Justin McClain, Chase Cato, Holley Hopwood, Kristin Francis, Katelyn Duncan, and Amber Coe. Seated, again left to right, are Kaitlynn Passon, Leslie Hilburn, Katie Callis, Andrew James, and Audrey Head.
